HISTORY

The History of Fr. Agnel Ashram

A well-known charitable institution in India, Fr. Agnel Ashram was founded on 9th June 1957, in the Land’s End neighbourhood of Bandra, a suburb of Mumbai, under the inspiration and guidance of late Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues.

It is a shrine containing the precious relics of Venerable Father Agnel. Daily, thousands of people irrespective of their faith, religion, caste and creed visit the Ashram to seek his heavenly intercession and to offer thanks for favours received. Sunday is observed as a special day in devotion to Fr. Agnel with Novena and Masses, in different languages.

The movement which started with an orphanage and a trade in carpentry by late Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues, continues with a rich legacy by the Ashram Fathers today.

Fr. Agnel’s Jayanti on 21st January and Punyatithi (death anniversary) on 20th November are celebrated with great pomp and piety, every year.

Apart from religious activities, the Ashram runs full-fledged schools, industrial training centres, polytechnics, engineering colleges at the bachelor and post-graduate levels and a School of Management. It has spread its wings with large technical complexes at Bandra in Mumbai, Vashi in Navi Mumbai, Goa and in Pune.
